Evaluating stereo cartoon depth maps as scene information for the blind
نویسندگان
چکیده
Important scene information may be relayed to a blind person via mobility aids that incorporate an image to sound mapping. However, these devices are frequently both tiring and stressful to use. A new display technique, which combines a stereo edge depth map with a cartoonlike scene representation is described. Experimental results are included that demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Semantic Scene Completion Combining Colour and Depth: preliminary experiments
Semantic scene completion is the task of producing a complete 3D voxel representation of volumetric occupancy with semantic labels for a scene from a single-view observation. We built upon the recent work of Song et al. [13], who proposed SSCnet, a method that performs scene completion and semantic labelling in a single end-to-end 3D convolutional network. SSCnet uses only depth maps as input, ...
متن کاملMulti-modal Auto-Encoders as Joint Estimators for Robotics Scene Understanding
We explore the capabilities of Auto-Encoders to fuse the information available from cameras and depth sensors, and to reconstruct missing data, for scene understanding tasks. In particular we consider three input modalities: RGB images; depth images; and semantic label information. We seek to generate complete scene segmentations and depth maps, given images and partial and/or noisy depth and s...
متن کاملObtaining Depth Maps From Color Images By Region Based Stereo Matching Algorithms
Introduction: Obtaining reliable depth maps, indicating distance of surface from the stereo camera pair, have importance in robotic applications and autonomous systems. Intelligent systems, which can move around by itself, could be developed by obtaining dept information from the sensors. Stereovision is the one of methods that can yield dept information of the scene. It uses stereo image pairs...
متن کاملA Stereo Image Processing System for Visually Impaired
This paper presents a review on vision aided systems and proposes an approach for visual rehabilitation using stereo vision technology. The proposed system utilizes stereo vision, image processing methodology and a sonification procedure to support blind navigation. The developed system includes a wearable computer, stereo cameras as vision sensor and stereo earphones, all moulded in a helmet. ...
متن کاملFOVEA: a foveated vergent active stereo vision system for dynamic three-dimensional scene recovery
We introduce FOVEA: a foveated vergent active stereo vision system. FOVEA actively directs a pair of vergent stereo cameras to fixate on surfaces in a scene, performing multiresolution surface depth recovery at each fixation point, and accumulating and integrating a multiresolution map of surface depth over multiple successive fixations. Several features of the system are novel: an active fovea...
